My latest poem, "This Atheist's Prayer", has been written to coincide with National Religious Freedom Day (USA) on 16th January 2021.
This special day must be seen as an important day, not just for those of faith but for those with none. The freedom to practice your religion, and the freedom to practice no religion, the freedom to believe and the freedom to disbelieve are inalienable rights that we must protect and allow to spread around the globe - there are many places around the world where religious choice is not an option. This message may better suit International Religious Freedom Day (27th October), however the reminder that we, as a species, have a long way to go is never wasted. The reminder that you are allowed to question and dislike any religion (and what it promotes) must always be protected. Someone declaring their offence is not a worthy argument (even in these 'woke' times), and it certainly is not a reason to stay silent. Faith or godliness does not deserve more deference than being faithless and ungodly.
Religion is not the ony place to find a home, to gain morals, to - but it is a place of indoctrination, prejudice, shame, punishment and judgement (in some cases before you are born and even after you're dead). That's not for me.
The above gives you a brief insight into the background behind "This Atheist's Prayer", which has been performed by Simon Clark in a supporting video which you can watch below.
