In 2021 S P Clark began working on a poetry collection based upon paintings: using their meanings, their themes, their titles, their imagery as a launch pad. The collection, titled With a Stroke of the Pen, spawned a mini-collection (Clark Meets Munch) released this year which follows a similar vein. To whet your appetite for the larger collection (due to be released in October 2024) here is a poem under consideration for inclusion in the collection. Here is Walking in the Rain.

Walking in the Rain
A Poem by S P Clark
Will you walk with me in the rain like we did that night in Brighton?
Yes, that night. That night when the clouds covered the moon and stars
That night when we huddled together under a blanket before the first drops fell beating out their slow rhythm on the pebble beach below our desirous bodies.
We stood and charged against the enemy, rain, that was firing droplets heavy, harder, targeted
We walked, laughing cacophonously and youthfully, into the slippery sheet that surrounded our every turn until we came to a sudden stop
A sudden stop, faced each other, spinning around each other as the world froze in place
It was in this place we kissed for an eternity. Planting it firmly, passionately in our memories.
We walked in the rain for many months until the only rain that fell came from our heart but still, I miss you.
Would you walk with me in the rain like we did that day in summer?
Yes, that day. That day when the clouds shielded the sun and blue
That day when we cradled each other beneath the cover of English Oak trees as the rain fell and decided to walk barefooted and felt the puddles soak our toes.
