This poem needs little introduction. It has been written following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This action, although not unexpected, has filled me with sadness; a sadness that never comes close to that of those living through this experience first hand. "Darkness: Calm Turned to Fears" is a short poem that incororates some of the sentiment and translated vocabularly from the National Anthem of the Ukraine.

Darkness: Calm Turned to Fears

A Poem by Simon Clark

A dark cloud has come across the sky today,

A terror that will affect the world for years,

The sky is filled with plumes of smoke,

As every mother’s eye is filled with tears,

The thundering of the once corn battlefields,

Where calm once reigned has now been turned to fears,

I hope the glory and freedom continue to be heard,

That luck will still smile on you and they lay down their guns and spears.
