For S P Clark, the natural world has always been more than scenery. It is a place of refuge, reflection and quiet healing, and the inspiration behind this poem.

Call the Copse

S P Clark

When anxiety sets me spiralling downwards,

Take me to the trees,

When depression starts beckoning with my name,

Take me to the trees,

When traumatic memories flood my sad mind,

Take me to the trees.

For in the open space in the centre of the copse, I find relief and serenity when my mind has all but forgot.

For in the open space in the centre of the copse, I find sweet peaceful remedies when agony is all I’ve got.

When anxiety wants me imprisoned inside,

Take me to the trees,

When depression pushes me down on my knees,

Take me to the trees,

When traumatic visions take over my sight,

Take me to the trees,

Take me to the trees,

Take me to the trees.
