Secrets & Private Thoughts
S P Clark
Those emotions from deep within come surging to the surface,
Seeping through those cracks in my heart, those scars that crystallised with each hurt along the way – one scar for each attack of pain,
My intimacies that were kept locked away for decades have smashed my own confidences to a million pieces and burst across the blank page that lay waiting for the blood red ink to paint its form,
My secrets left me cold and now the pen is warm.
Each undisclosed arousal, each unexpressed desire, each unvoiced temptation spills out of me - floods each blank leaf with blank verse or couplets coupled with lust and private thoughts,
The inner hurts, the carnal disappointments, the aching for belonging are best kept hidden, locked away,
The blank sheet is my therapist letting me unburden myself and opening the window for others to see in – even when I can’t speak out – opening the window for others to see in, to see inside, to see inside of me,
But don’t come close to me in the flesh lest I ooze my tears aloud,
Don't come close for then, in my cloistered shame, I can stand unbowed.
