Inspired by the events we are witnessing in America, here is my latest poem "William Thornton". As I wrote these words armed protesters and supporters of President Trump, spurred on by his words, had stormed the Capitol building and forced a lockdown. Reports are saying that at this time one civilian woman has been shot dead.
William Thornton
A Poem By Simon Clark
No ‘weakness’ was shown,
Inciting violence from his pyrite throne,
No concessions made,
Blithely remains until the last card gets played.
Democracy shot,
Fighting against freedoms to live in the rot,
To fester in hate,
Intentional momentum to aggravate.
Plumped up and spewing lies to his crowd,
He who only loves when his subjects are bowed,
Is watching as William Thornton’s majesty is torn down,
Immovable is the fool who wears the crown.
